Why buildings?
An interesting question was asked by my 4 year old nephew during my previous visit to my sister's place. The Question is
Why are only tall buildings called buildings and not for smaller houses?
Only then we realized that it was a difficult question to answer. I some how managed to answer something to him at that moment. Does anyone know the answer for this?

errr... i call small houses also buildings.. :(
as in... ur always like.. " its a two-storeyed building".. i think building can be used in the context of any structure.. google defines building as.."a structure that has a roof and walls and stands more or less permanently in one place".. so there.. :)

Why do we call it building when it’s already built? house mean's a place where people stay with their family or friends, building mean's where multifamily lives, or an comerical place.

@Jeevan - A tall building takes so long to build that people get used to saying building, that the structures name becomes building :) (My own theory )

Ok //Good.. however tall a building is we call it "Hospital", "School", "House", "Temple" etc.. when we can't give it a name we call it a "building".
To a 4 year old - I'll try to tell the child that we call people by name if we have names else we say "antha ponnu/paiyan/uncle/aunty" its the same way.
