Caste abomination

Never in my dreams have I thought that I will be writing a poem. But after I started reading a lot of blog, I noticed that many people write poems very nicely. Inspired by reading poems on many blogs I felt like trying my hand in writing a poem. I just took the theme from one of my earlier post. The following is my first ever poem, Hope you guys like it.Frozen Memories
===============
One bright day, his heart starts to flutter,
Keeping it with in him created storm and thunder,
With lots of apprehension he asked her,
If she could be his forever.

With no doubts in her mind, Yes she told,
giving her hand, saying her heart is now sold,
In memorable moments together they rolled,
Their lives shaping up in their love's mold.

Big No from parents because of difference in caste,
Didnt bother to look at character or cast,
Wonder why parents are still in the past,
Along society, ranking their child's happiness last.

For many years, to convince they struggled,
Caste blinding their parents, their love was ridiculed,
Such a pair can never be found even when googled,
Having high hopes the young pair was only fooled.

When their dreams and reality did not blend,
On a cold dark night everything reached its fag end,
Hearts shattered to pieces and no way to mend,
With tears in their eyes they departed as friend.

I would like to dedicate my first poem to a very special friend of mine. You know who it is, Its for you.

Varta...

    you did well with the rhyming, sounded pretty cool when I read it aloud...i believe poems should be read aloud to get its full potential out, its just me :) BTW, the outcome was sad, did they give in too easily? isn't love supposed to break all barriers? Newayz, good first effort, keep it up

    So this is abt ur ex-GF and u? awww...sad ending to a great love. Well I dunno why parents always disagree when we find a love on our own. It's weird.

    Maybe u and her were not meant to be...thats how I see it. My ex and I broke up too cos of his parents. And I was building a world with him all the while. Shit happens and even then, its for the best I guess. HUGGGGGGGGGZ KK!

    //Well I dunno why parents always disagree when we find a love on our own. It's weird. //
    Its a quite common sight in a conservative society like that of India and Sri Lanka. Parents fear about the society and dont care about their kids happiness.

    //Who's Varta btw? Can I ask?//
    Varta is a tamil word, which is generally said when one take leave from someone. As Deepa said its Rajini'ism too :)

    @Deepa - Thanks Deepa!!! Welcome here!! Hope to see you around more often.
    Exactly Varta is Rajini-ism... :)

    @Ramya - One statement and total damage :) But true I was easier than what I thought it would be :)

    Hi KK,

    The poem has touched my heart as I had to part from my lover couple of mths back due to caste differences .
    He's going to get married next year with the girl of his parents choice.
    Ur words of "shattered..pieces" was the exact word he used in his last mail to me.

    If your reading this comment by chance , I just want to let you know I truly understand that it wasn't ur fault and there isn't a single day that i don't think of you.

  • At December 20, 2006 11:08 AM, Blogger Ganesh Ranganathan said…

    why did you give this a sad ending....

    BTW...this caste crap is bull...if two people are in love and sure of themselves, then they should go ahead with the marriage inspite of the family's objections...the problem is that everyone wants to have security and are afraid of facing the world alone...

    Caste System and Mobility - education vs karma , which sounds better ?

    My Prof once explained the difference btw class mobility in China and India

    " In China , education is the key to rise up in the hierarchy "

    " In India , it's one's fate and karma which determines his position in the hierarchy. The only way a low caste can reach the top is by rebirth , being born in upper caste. That's also not guaranteed since it depends on his past life Karma!!!"

    @Ganesh - //why did you give this a sad ending....//
    Well thats what came in my head...
    Well Ganesh, though on oneside its for security that people want their parents acceptance, I guess the primary reason is that some feel that they cant just leave their parents, its because of them that they are how they are currently.

    @Loon Gal - Thanks :) Glad to know you liked the poem. I too liked the picture, it suited the mood of my poem. :)

    Varta - in this context means, shall I take leave... Its Tamil. This is actually Rajnikanth's dialogue in one of his movie.
