Photos...

Just came across this comic strip of Calvin and Hobbes...

These comic strips made me think on how I was when my picture was taken. During my childhood days photograph was such a formal thing. My photographs were taken only for some application purpose or it was my class group photo. I was too busy sliding down the stairway rails, filling my pockets with chocolates, eating full meals in the name of tasting the food, etc. to waste my time posing in some photograph during functions and parties. So I never used to be any of the casual pictures.
Later the next stage was, I never liked myself in photos because of my monalisaic face belief. So always used to avoid being in a picture. Then suddenly one day I realized that only whatever is there will come in the picture so started to pose for pictures. I was so bored of just standing facing the camera so I started doing pranks like how Calvin does in the above strip. Now when I look at those pictures, it seems so funny to see what all I have done. Lifting my leg, putting my tongue out, having a squint eye and making many more pranks with my face and hands. The last prank picture that I took was me posing like, the name is Bond, James Bond. With two girls on each side of me.
On the contrary I have seen that many Asians do not even smile when their picture is taken. Instead they give a very cold stare at the camera as if the camera did or is doing something wrong. Just wondering why we stare at the camera rather than giving a warm smile? Is it because of the myth that our life time reduces when our photo is taken?
Have you posed in any interesting poses for photographs?

Varta...

    haha! A funny clip with a lot to ponder about the expressions we get to make in front of the camera.Although ,recording the expressions infront of cameras are great fun alternatives.

    KK, I would say I am in total agreement with your observation.If the goal is to record as a momento of someone you know and always want to remember,then perhaps the best thing they could ever do is let go of their Love/hate relationship with the camera and sport a big n warm smile..:)

    @Harish - I thought only I used to think that I am horrible in pics seems like there are lots of people like me :)
    Dont think just post it on your blog :) B'cause if you think then you wont post :)

    @Karthik.B.S - Closing eyes in photographs is a pretty common thing that many face... one of my friend has her eyes closed in any picture :) May be you should leave the 3rd std thing behind and open your eyes wide for pictures :)
    BTW ungalukku 5th std'la double promotion koduthangala??? :)

    @S0ul - //hey calvin is like the cutest!//
    Like me right?? ;)
    Charlie's angels??? scares me at the thought of it... can image how terrified people will be when they see that pic :) I meant you will suit that role well :p :) Intersting poses man...should take a look at those pics sometime :)
    I already put a nice pic, you know where :p

    @Sneha - Well may be they come out good... our expectations are high... so we end up disappointed when we actually see the pic :) Atleast thats what happens when I pose for a picture... I need the photo to be taken in a specific way but the person taking the pic does not understand it so ends up screwed up :)
    I love to blackmail people with casual pics for fun :)

    @Priya - Well you dont need to stay stiff unless you are using the box camera :) Stay kewl Priya :) Now say cheez :) Click!

    LOL.. agree with you totally. There is some kinda nervousness while posing for the pp fotos.. 'Shouldnt blink the eyes, s'dnt give a crooked smile, etc' and more over, the fotographer wouldnt allow a single degree deviation from the x,y,z coordinates he fixes for the head, increasing the tension. adachey.. of late, my fotos are getting surely better.. :)

    First impression is the best impression. So if I put my James bond picture there then my reputation will get spoilt ;) Moreover many girls will have a heart break if I put that picture :)

    @Keshi - Yes I like that song... :)

    @ItchingToWrite - Yeah digi cams have changed the way people used to think about photography. Now we can just retake any picture again if we felt it didnt come well :) Helps to make good memento.

    @Oliveoyl - You too? I have subscribed for this so I get a comic strip everyday to my inbox :)
