The lost temples of India

This is an awesome video about the temples that lost its identity and importance over the period of time. The video primarily concentrates on the Great King Raja Raja Cholan and the Big temple of Thanjavur (or) Tanjor.
The video discusses about some interesting facts of how the Big temple was built thousands of years ago. The facts include how the huge stones were transported from the granary, How the hardest stones in the World, granite stones were broken down to the required sizes with premature tools, How a 40 ft large stone was hoisted on top of the big temple's kopuram.
The video also explains why the temples in the south are not as famous as the tombs and shrines in the northern part of India amoung the western tourist who visit India. It seems only about 10% of the people who visit India visit the temples in the south.
The video is about 52 mins in length, but surely worth watching. The video will be very educative for young children to know about the history of southern India. It is also our duty to increase the popularity of the temples in south India which lost its glory long time ago.

Have a great weekend

Varta...

Hey KK!!! Nice topic of discussion. I havnt seen the video completely, but ur description speaks by itself... the statictical figure of only 10% of ppl visitin the south indian temples is very shocking!!!! Our temples are so wonderful, the workmanship is unmatched. I guess, the tourism board has to take more initiative to move forward and encourage ppl to visit such magnificent monuments...

Initially, when i was a kid, i used to hate goin to temples. My parents wud explain to me abt this pillar, that gopuram.. and i used to get so bored.. but later, nowadays, i come to realise that these places are jus awesome and i can imagine how tuf it would have been to build up somethin liek this, considerin the fact that they had no modern equipment...

KK: Good post. I think its basically, our temples are not so clean inside and too much crowd.
Welle verywhere yous ee beggars sitting outside the temple premise which can be hard for a visitor to stand out and vie wit. Ther are ppl' who roundup those visitors for money begging and such things shud change.

In North, they are more religious than us. From home to temple, they take time to pray and indulge in bhajan activities. In south only few particular groups are encouraged to do so and where is the awareness.

I think temple history with pictures should be distributed as pamphlets to visitors who are new.
Ther is always divide and rule when we need to make things popular in our country. Eacha nd every state looks for revenue and they fight for it to be on top charts of India.

Hey Thats nice! This video was first posted to the blog community by lazy geek! Its a nice video, the only disheartening fact is that it is presented by an American and not by us when we should be proud of it! என்ன பண்றது! :)

@G3 - Correct'a sonneenga... Nammaliye niraya perukku namma oorula irukira kovilgaloda arumai theriyathu...I too have read about how the tanjore periya kovil was built but it was facinating to watch it in the video. Imagination will always be way ahead of reality. :)

@Barath - oh is it? Its been some time since I visited lazygeek's blog. I got this video as a email forward. :)

@Karthik - This video is not about Taj Mahal, but the author is using Taj Mahal to compare how South Indian temples lack the recognition that Taj Mahal gets. Try watching the video fully whenever you get a chance. Its nice. :)

@Jeevan - If you like to know about how they built the temple then you should watch this video. Its taken very well. Watch it whenever you can.:)

@Prithz - Hey Prithz!!! Hows it going? Yes our temples wonderful workmanship which is rarely appreciated. Yes, Tourism board should try to make these places more popular. But we should try our bit I guess :) That's why I posted this :) I went to all these temples when I was 2-3...so dont remember much..have to go sometime :)

@Priya - I accept the temples are not clean. Its surely one reason. But I was of the opinion that south indians are more god fearing than in north. Distributing pamplets about the temples history is a very nice idea, hope our tourism starts thinking in that angle :)

@IndianAngel - Welcome here!!! Hope to see you around. I got this video as an email forward. Well I think we always take it for granted, thats why we need an american to let us know how stupendous those structures are. :)
